Up on the Rack

I stopped by RMS Automotive today to pick up our truck and the '52 was up on the rack! It was a unique opportunity to get some pictures of the bottom of the car. In the process I also met Leonard.

Leonard is the mechanic working on the '52 and he knows what he is doing, he has been restoring cars like this in Texas for years. He is old school. He taught me a lot about the car and about the restoration process. He had some updates on the oil pan for me as well as some low down on restoration.

The oil pan they purchased to replace this one was not the right one. Leonard told me that when restoring an old car like that it is vital to keep the numbers matching, meaning the VIN numbers for all the parts and to keep as much original as possible. So he recommended taking this oil pan out and just fixing it. I thought that sounded like a great idea.

During our conversation he mentioned that because we are in Texas, getting these parts is much more difficult than in the northeast or California. So the more we can just fix from the original engine the better.

It will be a few more days before she heads for the body shop where Blake awaits her and this big project we have ahead of us.
