Original '52 Chevy Ad

I must be one of the only people who have received a gift from their mechanic! Our great restoration chief at RMS Body Shop on Yale gave us this original ad from LIFE magazine for the model car we are restoring. It details some of the features I have come to know and love, like the three on a tree shifting. The photos are great, you can click on this image to make it bigger.

This is now framed and is going to hang somewhere in the house at least until the project is over. A very interesting time piece. Thanks Blake!

She's All Metal

We checked in today with RMS to see the progress on the '52. Actually, there has been a lot of progress. What you are seeing here is almost 100% metal. Straight up. I promise you there are not many of you out there who could say the same. Most do not even have metal bumpers. That really blows my mind.

This is a great picture of her like this. I loved the metal exterior exposed, it was just beautiful. Blake continues to say this car is in the best shape he has ever seen for such an old car. The rust they kept waiting for creeping out from underneath the windows or under the carpet just never came.

We have about another week to two weeks before the sanding is done. They thought they may be able to use a sanding tool that would make the work go faster but it looks like she will be hand buffed beginning to end.

They will then pop the windows out, take out the seats, pull all the interior chrome and send the chrome off to the chromers. Meanwhile, she will get new paint! Despite the weather here, we are pretty settled on black. It will look really great, good enough for Al Capone.
